AFOS Treats 100 Orphans to Time of Their Life

Though the circuit, paddock and pits will be filled with racing cars and motorheads, the Asian Festival of Speed has not forgotten its social responsibility.

The Asian Festival Of Speed this weekend, May 30-31, held at the prestigious Sepang International Circuit, will feature four FIA-Sanctioned race series; the GT3 Asia, Formula V6 Asia, Asian Touring Car Series and Formula BMW Pacific.

As aspiring Formula 1 drivers and some of the best touring and GT car drivers take centre stage, 100 orphans have been specially invited to enjoy the exciting weekend.

The orphans from Ti-Ratana home and the Children Welfare Sponsorship Programme (CWST) will not only be able to watch the races but also get special tours around the pits and paddock area to enjoy the activities scheduled.

¡°It is such an honour to be invited for the Asian Festival of Speed. The kids are all excited about the trip and I am sure some of them will never forget the experience for the rest of their life,¡± said Ti-Ratana representative, Tan Thim Huat.

A total of 33 orphans between the age of 10-18 will come from the Ti-Ratana home while the rest will be from CWST.

¡°As for the kids from CWST, I am sure they will have sleepless nights till race day. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Motorsport Asia the organisers of AFOS as such a trip to Sepang on raceday is like a dream come true for us,¡± said Muhammad Azlan Nayan of CWST.

¡°Motor racing is such a great experience that everyone can enjoy. What we do here, is very different from other race events. Ours is a true speed festival where we combine all different aspects of motor racing in one action-packed weekend¡± said David Sonenscher, CEO of Motorsport Asia.

¡°Every year, it is a heart warming experience to be able to share the fun of some of the best races, pit-walkabout, Car Club display and the various side events with these kids. This year, Kayu Nasi Kandar has stepped up and wanted to treat them to a great meal as well. It is truly our pleasure to have these children join us and enjoy a day out with us¡± he concluded.

The local favourite ¡®mamak¡¯, Kayu Nasi Kandar has joined AFOS as the official food provider for the race weekend.

"AFOS is definitely one of the best racing Events in the Region and to be able to work with such an Event is an honour for Kayu Nasi Kandar," said it ' s CEO Sirajudin Y. Mohamed Mydin.

Kayu Nasi Kandar will begin operation at the track on Friday and will provide all your favourite mamak food including the all-Malaysian favourite teh tarik at the track right up till Sunday. The establishment which has been a household name since 1974, will be setting up two restaurants, open-air dining at the grandstand and an air-conditioned one in the paddock building.

"With so much going on throughout the weekend, we are delighted to be filling those hungry stomachs especially the 100 hungry kids from Ti-Ratana and CWST. While the AFOS event will be serving only the best drivers and cars on the grid, we will also be serving our Nasi Kandar specialties for fans maximum enjoyment," added Sirajudin who is an avid racing fan himself.

To add glitz to the glamour, this year there will also be a Supercar display by NAZA at the paddock and Mall areas. Besides the infectious tunes coming from 10 top-class DJs from Turn It Up of Capital FM, fans will also enjoy a bevy of cars in the ICE (In Car Entertainment) competition.

Spectators are also allowed access to the paddock where besides the fast charging Rally X cars and buggies, they can watch the thrilling Gymkhana competition scheduled from 11am to 4pm.

Not to forget the usual stunning AFOS Race Queens.

To make it more irresistible, entrance to the grandstands is free.

There is a special RM10 pass that allows access to the Pit-Walkabout, Paddock Rooftop and the air-conditioned dining area at the Paddock.

The AFOS Sepang event is supported by Michelin, ELF, Naza Group, Capital FM, Turn It Up and Kayu Nasi Kandar.
