Thompson Flies After Team Switch
11/3/2009

Gary Thompson topped the times in testing at Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia yesterday as the teenager from Donabate, Dublin began his final week of testing ahead of his car racing debut in the 2009 Formula BMW Pacific series next month.

In a late change of plans, Thompson has switched to Malaysian based E-Rain Racing squad for the coming season and the 16-year-old celebrated his change of team colours by setting the pace at the Formula One venue.

Settling in quickly with the team, Thompson ended the day on a high, finishing with a lap time that gives him renewed confidence for the season which begins on the 5th April during the 2009 Formula 1 PETRONAS Malaysian Grand Prix.

¡°That was a really good day¡¯s work and I¡¯m satisfied we¡¯ve made the right decision. Everything about the E-Rain Racing team is ultra professional and I¡¯m certain that they can give me the right support for my first year of car racing¡± said Gary afterwards.

¡°I can¡¯t wait to start racing. I am delighted that I will have two strong teammates to work with and I am really looking forward to working with Fahmi Ilyas and Fahad Algosaibi this season.¡±

This year¡¯s Formula BMW Pacific series takes in events at Formula One Grand Prix in Malaysia and Singapore, in support of the World Touring Car Championship in Japan, during the Asian Festival Of Speed in Sepang and Indonesia and at the world famous Macau Grand Prix.
